ABOUT THE SHOW

Get your front-row seat to music history in the making! Bringing fierce guitar playing and swing to gospel music, Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a legend in her time and a huge influence on Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, and Ray Charles. Marie and Rosetta chronicles her first rehearsal with a young protégée, Marie Knight, as they prepare to embark on a tour that would establish them as one of the great duos in music history. This story of letting loose, finding your voice, and freeing your soul is a soaring music-theatre experience chock full of roof-raising performances.

HOUR_DTP_Theatre Week 1000 x 1000.jpg

ABOUT THE SHOW

This poetic new play with music follows Ed, a gay Jesuit priest who leaves the Catholic church to reconcile with his estranged brother in an isolated and icy township in Alaska. As Ed confronts his tragic past and tenuous future, he unexpectedly finds love beneath the starry Alaskan sky, and support from an unlikely ally. Introducing an auspicious new voice in American theatre, The Hour of Great Mercy is a tender, insightful and compassionate story about our collective relationship to illness, family, and redemption.

Aubergine 1000x1000.png

ABOUT THE SHOW

Ray believes in the power of food. As a gourmet chef, he’s seen a bowl of berries help a woman to fall in love. He’s heard stories of a meal prepared by a mother to keep a son from leaving home and moving to the other side of the world. Now with the help of his uncle, who arrives unexpectedly from Korea, Ray is tasked with preparing a family soup recipe to keep his father alive.

When words fail, a home-cooked meal transcends differences in this touching story of intergenerational connectedness, forgiveness and the sweetest spice of life: love. As a Korean family struggles to relate across emotional and cultural divides, it’s the ingredients they share in common that lead to understanding. Aubergine is a mouthwatering meditation on the beauty of life where hope is no mere ingredient—it’s the main course.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Donald and his wife Marvelous have been living the American Dream since emigrating from Zimbabwe nearly three decades ago. They have a beautiful house and impressive careers, and now one of their daughters is getting married! But when the bride insists on a traditional African wedding ceremony, tensions start to rise. Throw in an eccentric aunt from the old country and a bewildered bridegroom, and soon it’s not certain the couple will ever make it down the aisle. Familiar, from Tony Award nominee Danai Gurira (Black Panther, “The Walking Dead”), takes a funny, warmhearted look at tradition, marriage, and what it means to be an American family. The New York Times calls it “an engrossing, fiercely funny comedy–drama that probes with subtlety and smarts.” Contains strong language.

ABOUT THE SHOW

A Permanent Image by Samuel D Hunter
Directed by James P. Darvas

Siblings Bo and Ally are back in their childhood home in Idaho for the funeral of their Father. Their Mother Carol has painted the whole house white and is suspected to have been drinking since their father's death. What Ally and Bo come to find out is that their Mother has a method to her madness as she pulls out some home videos of their father just before he died.

Called a fusion between realism and the absurd, A Permanent Image is a tense exploration of the distance families put between themselves and what it take to bring them back together.

Nellie McKay Performs The Big Molinsky: Considering Joan Rivers

DSC_7450.jpeg

ABOUT THE SHOW

Nellie McKay exploded onto the music scene in 2004 with her eclectic showstopper, Get Away from Me. Upending the norms of piano-backed jazz with a seamless merger of musical erudition and thematic irreverence, it was, as the New York Times observed, “a tour de force from a sly, articulate musician.” With a voice that can be boisterous and bold or soft and breathy, McKay harnesses the agility of a superstar athlete from the piano bench. She has maintained that adventurousness — starring on Broadway in The Threepenny Opera, opening for Lou Reed at Carnegie Hall, duetting with Eartha Kitt and recording a dazzling tribute to Doris Day. In her one woman show The Big Molinsky: Considering Joan Rivers, McKay delivers a performance for the ages as the talented and treasured Joan Rivers (playing a few other people in Rivers’ life to boot).
